Explore over 2000 acres of ‘Capability’ Brown parkland and 90 acres of award-winning formal gardens (you’ll need to do it on foot though, cycling is not permitted inside the park). You can also enjoy a ride on the miniature train to the Pleasure Gardens, a dedicated family area that offers a giant hedge maze, butterfly house and an adventure playground.
Cotswold Wildlife Park & Gardens
It might seem odd to include a Wildlife Park on a ‘Gardens & Walks’ page, but this one is well worth a visit for the stunning gardens alone and the Victorian Manor House at the heart of it. In particular the walled garden and the cleverly planted themed borders and seasonal displays make a beautiful backdrop to the animals and may well give you ideas you can take home. Stephen Lacey (Daily Telegraph) described the exotic planting in the Old Walled Garden as “amongst the best in Britain”.
Witney Lake & Country Park
This is a picturesque 37 hectare Country Park that is right next to the hotel, so don’t miss out on a lovely area to explore or take a walk before dinner. You can stroll around the Lake’s footpath, rambling through the tranquil landscape. Witney Lake offers a gateway to the Lower Windrush Valley where you can enjoy the abundant variety of plants and wildlife. You can also buy a fishing licence if you fancy some angling during your stay.
Walking the Oxfordshire Cotswolds
This part of the country is blessed with some idyllic countryside, rivers and ancient monuments to discover. The website link takes you to a page with over 50 different mapped and described walks, long and short, to be enjoyed in the area.
Cotswolds Water Park
The Cotswold Water Park is an area of over 40 square miles and 170 lakes, a stunning wetlands landscape hosting tens of thousands of breeding and watering birds and is an ideal destination for watching wildlife all year round.
